NUBA aims to teach, practice and promote Butoh dance, in France and abroad. It proposes to transmit the dance resulting from the culture of Japan with authenticity and in the search for permanent development. In France, the NUBA company wishes to create an artistic dialogue between Japanese and French cultures.
Who are we ?
NUBA was founded in Tokyo in 1990 by Juju Alishina. Between 1990 and 1997, the company worked with more than 40 dancers and a team of 35 staffs. The performances were presented in Japan, the United States, Europe, with participation in many international festivals. Juju Alishina's style is appreciated as being “a fine blend of traditional and avant-garde”.
In 1998, Juju Alishina moved to Paris and set up the NUBA association in France. It continues its educational and artistic activities with new French teams.From 2001, and until today, she gives regular courses in Paris and online.With classes and workshops in France and abroad, the Alishina Method has already brought together thousands of students.

Juju Alishina (choreographer, dancer) was born in Kobé, Japan. Trained in traditional Japanese dance and Butoh, she began her professional career with the Byakkosha company in Kyoto in 1982. Juju Alishina founded in Tokyo in 1990 her own company NUBA with international influence. The trademark of the NUBA dance company is its paradoxical combination of shadow and celebration .
In 1998, she moved to Paris and developed there her pedagogy of traditional and contemporary dance. Her dance method is published in three different languages and is read all over the world.

Juju Alishina lived in the essence of Butoh in Japan. She put her life to work to promote and disseminate this art in France and internationally.
